windy morning

It is blowing 30-45 which is ripping out the new ice skim. The winter games on ice will happen on East Lake Okoboji across from Cum & Go in Okoboji. They had to go way out into the lake to gather snow to surrround the broomball areas. Looks like things will go on! No open ice on East Okoboji.

Lake has skimmed over today

Just saw the lake has a thin skim of ice. Big winds and warm-up the next few days may change things. This is probably the worst case. Winter Games this weekend and I am sure visitors will think the whole lake is solid. Hopefully no tragedies..... I will update you as the week passes.

Aerial view of open water

David Thoreson took a great photo of West Okoboiji from the air on a flight from Minneapolis to santa Fe last week. Email him at : bluewaterstudio@iowaone.net
It shows the open water extending across the center of the lake. I recomend the photo!

Pictures of West Okoboji

I took these pictures on Jan 5/6. I will add new ones this weekend. The lake is open a lot more now. I hope people stay off the ice this winter games. Could prove to be a very cold swim!

Hi world wide web

My first go at this. I will post pictures of the incredible open water on West Okoboji. Not to be too political, but I watched an interview the night before last. Two economist, one from Colunbia and one from Harvard, did a study of the cost of the Iraq war to date. they factored in the replacement cost of the bullets, missiles, helicoptors and also the ongoing care for those veterans with permanent disabilities and the 10 year cost is 2.2 trillion dollars!!!
